Dazzling Fun 1DM designer pendant light made from shell chains

The Fun 1DM designer pendant light from VERPAN is impressive not only visually but also acoustically. Dazzling plates made of real mother-of-pearl, connected by small metal rings to chains of varying lengths, hang down from three chrome-plated metal rings and embody pure elegance, not only as a source of light but also as a spatial design element. The nickname "Mother of Pearl" refers to the material mother-of-pearl – a natural composite material that occurs mainly in mussel shells. Mother-of-pearl is characterised by its special surface structure, which creates an iridescent sheen when light falls on it. It is therefore understandable why Verner Panton chose mother-of-pearl as the main material for one of his most significant lighting creations.

With its iridescent sheen, the Fun pendant light fills its entire surroundings. And this lamp even has a special appeal in terms of acoustics, because as soon as the mother-of-pearl chains start to move, whether due to a draught or simply because the heat generated by the bulb causes them to swing, they produce a harmonious sound.

Verner Panton, who initially focused on designing home furniture, became famous for, among other things, the Panton Chair, which even made it onto the cover of Vogue magazine in 1995 alongside Kate Moss. But Panton also made a name for himself with extraordinary light artworks. The Dane was an advocate of innovative design and loved to experiment with colours and materials to create not only furniture but entire room sculptures with design qualities.
