Dazzling Fun 11DM designer pendant light made from mother-of-pearl chains

Designed in 1964 by Danish designer Verner Panton, the Fun 11DM pendant light has lost none of its charm to this day. Panton made a name for himself as a furniture and lighting designer in the mid-20th century. He became famous above all for his unusual creations, all of which bear Panton's unmistakable signature. One of his first designs was the Fun series of lights. Inspired by the fascinating properties of the biomaterial mother-of-pearl, the then 38-year-old created a lighting object that plays with transparency and iridescent reflections. Dozens of chains made of mother-of-pearl plates are attached to five shiny chrome-plated, concentric metal rings, which are connected to each other with stainless steel rings and are therefore movable. This pendant light makes use of not only the translucency but also the typical iridescent surface structure of mother-of-pearl to create an incomparable shimmering effect. This light rightly bears the nickname "Mother of Pearls".

With a diameter of 70 cm, the Fun 11DM is a lighting object that is preferably placed in reception halls, ballrooms or foyers to fill the surroundings with its luxurious flair – whether as a solitary piece or in combination with other lights in this series. The 400 cm long, textile-coated cable even allows installation in rooms with very high ceilings. When a breeze strips the sea of mother-of-pearl chains, a gentle sound similar to that of a wind chime can be heard. If the pendant light is fitted with a conventional traditional light bulb, the heat generated by the bulb is even capable of causing the shell chains to vibrate slightly and produce a harmonious sound.
