Patera Designer Pendant Light – Spherical shade made from light cells for 360° illumination
The Patera pendant light, whose white spherical shade is formed from many small elements, exudes understated modernity. Its shape is reminiscent of the cells of an organism, and Patera’s design is based on the Fibonacci sequence, which is frequently found in nature. When designing the Patera pendant light, designer Øivind Slaatto took a highly mathematical approach to create a three-dimensional Sudoku. Inspired by nature and mathematics, the Patera was created to immerse the viewer in a pleasant and positive atmosphere and bring any room to life. As soon as the light is switched on, a fascinating light pattern emerges, as each cell glows independently. The light is directed mainly downwards, whilst a smaller portion also radiates upwards towards the ceiling, creating a very atmospheric lighting experience.
The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical sequence of natural numbers that begins with two ones, where each subsequent number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. Following this Fibonacci sequence, the leaves and other parts of many plants are arranged in a spiral pattern, enabling optimal luminous efficiency and, consequently, optimal growth.
The Patera series of lights is perfectly in keeping with the philosophy of the lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen, which – founded in 1874 – aims to give form to light through its designs and to create a positive effect on people and spaces. Every design begins and ends with light, a principle that is also embodied by Patera.
