The Rituals 3 table lamp from Foscarini exudes pure relaxation and serenity. The shape and texture of its handblown glass shade are reminiscent not so much of solid glass as of light Japanese paper. True to its name, Rituals demonstrates that the ambient lighting for meditation or relaxation sessions does not necessarily have to come from light sources made of natural materials; glass lights can also conjure up a cosy, feel-good atmosphere.

The horizontal rings that run through the light’s lampshade are created using a special glass-working technique known as ‘a fermo’. With this blowing technique, the glass is not rotated in the mould. Negative decorations in the mould are imprinted onto the glass, creating the characteristic striped pattern that comes to life impressively when the light is switched on. The final finishing touches are literally applied by hand. Finally, immersing the glass in acid creates a chalky finish. The glass rests on a minimalist three-legged base made of lacquered metal with a textured surface – a clear yet fitting contrast to the organically shaped lampshade.
