Classic design – a new lease of life: the Nessino designer table lamp by Artemide

This table lamp is a perfect illustration of just how timeless design can be: the Nessino model is the little sister of the Nesso table lamp. Nesso was developed in the 1960s by the designer Giancarlo Mattioli and the Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova. The mushroom-like shape and the plastic body clearly suggest that it originated in that decade. Nevertheless, Nessino, the reissue of Nesso, remains a contemporary and appealing piece of furniture even today.

Both the base and the lampshade of the Nessino are made of injection-moulded polycarbonate. There are four lamp sockets beneath the lampshade. The hemispherical lampshade ensures that the light is emitted into the surroundings in a glare-free and indirect manner.

The Italian designer Giancarlo Mattioli (1933–2018) achieved great fame in the 1950s and 1960s with, among other things, the Nesso table lamp, which is now on display in various major museums, such as the MoMA in New York.
